Coffee lovers rejoice. Cappuccino, espresso and more are now convenient and can be made at home. Gaggia’s Titanium Espresso Machine is a coffee shop for the kitchen. This is not a big-box store’s scaled down version that makes two espresso’s and never works again. This is the ultimate coffee center – it grinds coffee beans, froths milk, makes espresso’s and cleans up with ease. What more could anyone ask for?

Out of the Box

The Gaggia Titanium Espresso machine is a lovely addition to any kitchen. At 11.25 inches wide and 14.5 inches height, it doesn’t swallow up counter space and its beautiful titanium stainless construction complements any décor. Many owners have said that the first thing they noticed was how well it was packed, surely a sign of a good company and a good product.

Packaged with the espresso machine are all the accessories needed for getting started. There is a coffee scoop, brush for cleaning, cappiccinatore (automatically creates frothed milk from a container of milk), user manual, water hardness testing strip, and wrench for removing and cleaning the brew filter. The only items missing are coffee and water.

User’s rave about the ease of set up, one reported having the machine “out of the box, read through the instructions, and started brewing coffee in about 15 minutes” (Kurt Fenstermacher, Westport CT). The machine also swivels to allow easier access to the water source.

Espresso or Lungo?

The Gaggia Titanium Espresso Machine produces four different beverages, an espresso, regular coffee, caffee lungo and hot water. Caffe lungo is similar to espresso only with more water; using the cappiccinatore ads a fifth and sixth beverage choice, a latte or cappuccino.

Brewing an espresso is a breeze. Make a selection from the row of buttons, and if it isn’t made just how you want it, start over and hold the button in until the amount of water desired is released. The machine will remember the setting for the next time. The temperature can also be adjusted, another feature most espresso makers are missing.

If the coffee that is in the hopper is not the coffee that is desired, place ground coffee in the bypass hopper; another feature that other espresso makers are usually missing.

The cappiccinatore is an amazing addition. No more frothing milk, which can be a messy venture if not skilled at it. Simply put in a pitcher of cold milk and get back a pitcher of frothed milk. Even better, the frothing unit uses its own boiler so there’s no waiting for the water to heat back up. For die hard old school cappuccino lovers, there is a standard frothing wand that can be used.

Clean Up

The dreaded clean up is made easy with the Gaggia Titanium Espresso Machine. According to users, the Gaggia is the simplest espresso machine to clean. The dreg drawer sits inside the drip tray which slides out when the door is open. The machine has an indicator light alerting users that the dreg drawer needs empty and a float that rises to indicate that the drip tray is full.

The most difficult part to clean although really not difficult is the brew unit. However, a couple of turns of a few screws and the brush that comes with the machine makes it no more difficult to clean than any other small appliance.

The price of the machine may at first seem steep; however, once the machine is home and in place, the extraordinary cappuccinos and espressos being produced will quickly put that thought out of mind, especially if money is being spent daily at a coffee shop. The savings will pay for the machine.
