The Gaggia 90501 Titanium SS Super Automatic Espresso and Cappuccino Machine.
Owning a Gaggia Titanium SS Espresso Machine is like having a coffee center inside the house. The Titanium SS is the top of the line super automatic espresso machine from Gaggia. This super sleek, titanium steel espresso and cappuccino machine is a coffee lover’s dream. From espresso with thick rich crema to cappuccino’s that rival Starbucks, the Gaggia Titanium SS is the machine to have.
First Impressions
The Gaggia Titanium SS Espresso machine is a lovely addition to any kitchen. The SS model costs a little more but for stainless steel, it’s worth the added value it brings to the kitchen décor. Like the other models, the footprint is a mere 11.25 inches by 14.5 inches, leaving plenty of counter room for cups and supplies.
Upon opening the box, most customers say their first impression was simply ‘wow’. Not only is the packaging secure and well done, which says a lot about the company, but the weight of the machine is fairly heavy, a testament to workmanship. No flimsy plastic housing here.
The Gaggia SS comes with a manual that is easy to follow and all the other accessories needed to get started. The coffee scoop included is handy when bypassing the coffee grinder to use a different coffee. Included are two frothing tools: a frothing wand for manually frothing milk and a cappiccinatore, an automatic frother that attaches to the machine. Users also get a wrench for removing the brew filter and a cleaning brush.
Since hard water makes for a bad coffee, Gaggia has also included a hard water testing strip. Should the water turn out to be too hard, substitute bottled water or have water filter installed on water source for better coffee.
Once out of the box, set up, according to other users say it’s as simple as adding water and coffee and getting ready for a cup of java. Naturally there’s a little more to it than that, but not much more.
Ah, the Ease
According to Andrew Rodney of Santa Fe, NM, once the coffee strength desired is determined the rest is a breeze. Making a mug of piping hot coffee is so simple and the coffee is outstanding. Reviews like this are typical of the Gaggia and are testament to its ability to please virtually all coffee drinkers.
The Titanium SS offers a 60 oz. water reservoir and 8.5 oz coffee bean hopper with coffee bypass for using a different coffee when desired. The water reservoir rotates for easy access to the water source, a handy feature not found on other espresso makers.
The Cobalt blue LCD shows programming information and alerts for the various stages of the brewing and cleaning process, from cleaning and descaling through counting the cups brewed. There are also three programmable buttons for setting the volume of liquid brewed.
Frothing milk for your cappuccino has never been an easier task. The Gaggia offers two options for frothing. For those who like to and have mastered the art of frothing, there is the typical frothing wand. For people who dread frothing there is an automatic frothing attachment that requires nothing more than inserting the milk into the container and setting it in the cappiccinatore. Put in cold milk get back fresh hot froth.
The Gaggia offers a choice of beverages to brew: an espresso with a beautiful crema, a regular coffee, café lungo and hot water. For coffee newbies, a cafe lungo is an espresso with more water, sort of a watered down version of an espresso. In addition to beverage choice, there are 5 temperature choices to get the coffee just as desired.
What Mess?
The clean up (or lack thereof) is a major plus according to reviews of Gaggia SS users. Simply empty the dreg drawer when the machine indicates it is time. The drip pan has a floaty that rises to indicate it needs emptied. An occasional maintenance day for cleaning the brew unit and that is all it takes. Nothing could be simpler.
The Gaggia SS Espresso machine costs more than other machines but in terms of quality of coffee and life of the machine they are worth every penny.
